Gusbourne Estate Brut Reserve 2009

Gusbourne Gusbourne Estate Brut Reserve 2009The French may have laid claim to it first, but it was actually an Englishman by the name of Christopher Merrett who invented sparkling wine.   It’s great then to see our new found English fizz industry increasingly standing toe to toe with their Champagne counterparts for quality.  Still pretty small, but rapidly growing in reputation, Gusbourne Estate is firmly in the ‘one to watch’ category, particularly as they recently won English Wine Producer of the Year and the Bottle Fermented Sparkling Wine Trophy at 2013 IWSC awards.  Their recently released Brut Reserve 2009 is the one to go for, providing zesty and fresh top notes with, baked apples and pears, before finishing off in a classic bready fashion.  £24.99 from good wine retailers.
