When Kings Cross St. Pancras underwent a major refurbishment a few years ago, one of the aims was to create a building that would cast a truly magnificent first impression for visitors from out of town (particularly our French friends, we like to think!). In no uncertain terms, the building would shout loud and proud that they had indeed ARRIVED in London!
Suitably impressive food offerings would also be required and suddenly the area was awash with posh pubs, restaurants, cafés and delis. Perhaps the most exciting of all was The Gilbert Scott, where they turned to one of the country’s most respected modern-era chefs, Marcus Wareing, to manage the food offering.
Set within the achingly beautiful St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, The Gilbert Scott offers an elegant yet laid back dining experience. Every bit as stunning as the rest of the hotel, the restaurant and bar transport guests to an era of glamour, with ornately painted ceilings and hanging chandeliers complementing the stunning Victorian Gothic architecture of this iconic building.
If you’re coming for a meal, you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t arrive in good time to experience both the surroundings and the exquisite cocktails in the bar first. There’s fun to be had in restaurant too, with an in-house pianist entertaining guests every evening.
When it comes to your meal, the extensive menu provides an irresistible selection of modern British classics at their best, all made with the finest local and seasonal ingredients. Starters include deliciously simple dishes such as Dressed Dorset crab and Ham hock & foie gras terrine as well as the more indulgent Roasted quail with Dorset snails. Mains feature a Lake District sirloin steak with an unapologetically rich brandy mushroom sauce; Cornish plaice with, mussels, tomatoes & basil; and the obligatory options of Fish & Chips and Pies. Dessert showcases the British love of proper puddings, with Banana bread & butter pudding and Walnut Whip inspired chocolate mousse sitting alongside Elderflower posset with gin jelly & lemon cake.
Dinner for two (excluding drinks): £75
