For One Night Only by Monkey Shoulder Whisky from 7 September

Monkey Shoulder Whisky will be transforming disused spaces around London and turning them into unique drinking experiences, once a week for the next three months.   Open for one night only, each event will harness the talents of London’s young creatives to bring an unforgettable interactive night, celebrating classic whisky cocktails in the most unconventional ways imaginable. They will be teaming up with the likes of Lomography, who’ll be responsible for re-interpret the meaning of ‘Old Fashioned’, and One Dot Zero, who will be pushing boundaries with a cutting edge, digital celebration of what a ‘Blazer’ cocktail might be. The Whisky Show Dinner @ Bombay Brasserie, 11 September

Britain’s most exciting street food traders will be racing to London to compete in the 2012 British Street Food Awards.  The critically-acclaimed traders will park up on the cobbles outside Fifteen, Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, to create the brightest and best street food market that Britain has ever seen.  Nominated by some of the UK’s top food writers, the finalists include Café Mor, who will be back from Pembrokeshire to defend their title; The Mussel Men, prepping the fattest moules around from the family fish farm in Scotland; and a Michelin-starred interpretation of street food from chef Jun Tanaka’s Street Kitchen.  There will also be live music, a picnic area and giant inflatables plus plenty of drinks to create the party vibe.  Tickets are £4 from www.britishstreetfood.co.uk


Miercoles Fiesta @ The Big Chill House, N1, 12 September

Having spent time in the kitchens of some of the world’s best restaurants, including Per Se and Noma, it’s safe to say that James Knappett has either gone crazy or had a moment of genius that will take over the culinary world.  The concept quite simply creates the most unlikely marriage since Russell Brand and Katy Perry by specialising in Champagne and hot dogs.  The menu of ten hot dogs includes the BLT dog, served with truffle mayo & caramelized lettuce and the Jose dog with guacamole, sour cream, salsa & jalapenos.  The drinks menu will offer a list of lesser-known grower champagne, as well as cocktails, craft beers and G&T’s made with homemade tonic and Bubbledogs’ own gin. www.bubbledogs.co.uk


Bentley’s Sea Grill @ Harrods

Fast becoming a second home to some of London’s most famous restaurants, the latest name to join the ranks at Harrods is Bentley’s.  As one would expect of a restaurant by Richard Corrigan, Bentley’s Sea Grill brings together exceptional seafood in a relaxed environment with a touch of good old-fashioned hospitality.  The menu has been designed to cater to shoppers after a quick bite as well as destination diners, with dishes including a dedicated seafood cocktail section, a choice of simply grilled fish as well as some more creative options such as the Bentley’s classic Royal fish pie.  www.harrods.com

Bibigo Bar and Dining, W1

Owned by CJ, Korea’s biggest food company and with the menu created by Leo Kang, one of the judges of Masterchef Korea, the international Bibigo chain has landed in London to give us a taste of their nation’s food.   The restaurant and bar specialises in assemble-to-order Bibimbap, Korea’s national dish of rice with assorted meats and veg, alongside grills such as the traditional Beef Bulgogi and other delicacies.  The contemporary style venue is ideal for spot of relaxed lunch or dinner and fans of the food are also able to buy a selection of Korean snacks, sauces and other food products to take home. www.bibigouk.com


Simply Fish, NW1

Simply Fish is the latest addition to London’s burgeoning steak restaurant scene… sorry rubbish joke.  As the name suggests, Simply Fish is all about seriously fresh (and sustainable) seafood, with the latest catch delivered daily from its very own merchants in Looe, Cornwall.  Once on site, the restaurant’s culinary team transform our underwater friends into dishes to suit all tastes.  Take your pick from a range of seafood, including grey mullet, stone base and sea bream, and have it cooked however you want, from pan fried, steamed, baked and battered.  Flavours are equally eclectic, with influences taken from the Mediterranean, Asia and the Middle East.  Complementing the restaurant menu is a deli counter stocked with a range of ingredients, seafood and takeaway dishes to enjoy at home.  www.simplyfishcamden.co.uk

Just when you think the rest of the beer world has caught up with their famed craft production techniques, the crazy Belgian’s move the goal posts again.  This time, traditional Belgian abbey beer brewers, St Stefanus, has combined its tradition and brewing expertise to provide a speciality beer that matures in the bottle, allowing you to choose the way you want your beer to taste.  After brewing, the 7%abv unpasteurised beer is stored for three months before being released for sale.  At three months, St Stefanus has a fresh and fruity taste and at 18 months of maturation, it develops a deep golden colour offering a beer with aromatic flavours.  Available in 330 ml and  750ml for £2.95 and £8.95 respectively from Majestic and  online www.st-stefanus-shop.co.uk

If any proof is needed that charity pays, then just take a look at Jamie ‘Pukka’ Oliver’s burgeoning business empire.  Jamie opened Fifteen, his first restaurant, in 2002 as a charity foundation to give unemployed young people a career path in the food world.  Fast forward 10 years and Fifteen has grown to have outposts in Cornwall and Amsterdam.  Look beyond his charity work and quite impressively – particularly for his bank account – all this positive karma has led to Jamie becoming of the UK’s most successful restaurateurs.   Moreover, a delicious meal during a recent visit to Fifteen London showed that the concept has clearly stood the test of time.
