The Singleton Taste Room, W1. 27-28 September

Mark Hix, Gilles Peterson, Dominic Wilcox, Daniel Poole and other cultural tastemakers have joined The Singleton of Dufftown to curate an exhibition of all the things they believe are essential to creating the perfect malt whisky-tasting environment.  Taking place in the iconic Georgian glass-ceilinged room at 33 Portland Place, visitors will be immersed in a range of experiences, including everything from the perfect food match to specifically designed glassware and whisky inspired tunes.  Entry is free – just turn up between 6pm and 9pm and you’ll even be treated to a free whisky.

Sipsmith Gin Palace @ The Langham, W1.  Every Thursday-Saturday

Palm Court at The Langham has partnered with artisan distillery Sipsmith for the launch of the Sipsmith Gin Palace.  Live jazz and opulent surroundings will transport guests back to the glamour of the mid 1800′s when Gin Palaces were at their most prolific in London and The Langham opened its doors for the first time.  Open every Thursday to Saturday evening, The Gin Palace menu features infusions and cocktails inspired by the history of gin as well as a complementary food menu.

Scotch Egg Challenge @ The Ship, SW18. 25 September

20 competitors will take to the kitchens with the aim of elevating the humble bar snack to new heights in a cook-off and blind tasting to find the nation’s top Scotch Egg.  On show will be cutting-edge combinations such as duck, goose and truffle-oil injected eggs wrapped in everything from sausage to venison and even kangaroo. With contenders including Heston Blumenthal’s The Hinds Head Pub and Scotch egg street food legend ‘Egg Boss’, the question on everyone’s lips is – who will egg-cel?  Free to attend, there will also be cooking demos and tasters for visitors.

Cake & Bake Show, Earls Court. 22-23 September

With the Great British Bake Off back on our TV screens and sending the nation baking crazy, The Cake & Bake Show offers fans a chance to see the stars of the show live.  Baking legends Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood will be at the show along the likes of Eric Lanlard, Paul A Young and Peggy Porschen.  Visitors will be treated to expert demonstrations, hands-on workshops, competitions, a food market and stands selling the latest baking equipment, ensuring their every baking need is catered for. Tickets are £12.50.

Oktoberfest at the Bridge, SW6. 4 October

Chelsea Football Club will be celebrating Oktoberfest at the Bridge – Germany’s world famous annual beer festival. The venue’s Great Hall will be transformed into a traditional Bavarian beer festival including a variety of German beers, a gourmet German feast and entertainment from resident band, Oompah Brass.  Tickets start at £40/head from

With stripped back, warehouse-style décor, classic 1920′s cocktails and a sultry hint of hedonism, the bar brings a slice of New York factory-style cool to North West London.  Giving a nod to the Prohibition era, nestled in the back of the bar is The Volstead Library, a concealed room complete with its own bar, that can only accessed through a weathered wardrobe making the perfect hideaway for private parties away from prying eyes. For those who like to be amongst the action, deep leather booths surround the bar with full table service ensuring non-stop socialising well into the night.

Death By Burrito is an contemporary Mexican grill and cocktail bar brought to you by Shay Ola of underground experimental concept the Rebel Dining Society.  Located at the renowned Catch bar in the heart of Shoreditch and in keeping with Rebel Dining Society traditions; experimental cocktails will form an inseparable part of the dining experience. Mixologist Ryan Chetiyawardana has developed an exclusive tequila only cocktail list with Jose Cuervo Tradicional to go along with the street-food style menu.

London’s latest pizza joint takes Brooklyn as its inspiration, with New York style pizzas and a cocktail bar bringing the unmistakable taste of The Big Apple to Chelsea.  Brooklyn Bitepromises crispy, thin-based pizzas with delicious toppings piled high, in the kind of generous proportions that are more familiar to our US cousins.  Opened by former New York native, Ilias Nathanail, the all-day menu features a range of pizzas, calzones, salads and sub style sandwiches.  The sweet-toothed will no-doubt be tempted by the classic New York cheesecake and Chocolate Calzone, whilst those more inclined to liquid treats can head downstairs to the speakeasy-style bar.

Hakkasan Group has partnered with one of Japan’s most renowned chefs, Michelin-starred Yoshihiro Murata for the launch of their latest venture.  The menu at Chrysan will be anchored by his protégé Daisuke Hayashi who has created a menu to showcase a new style of Japanese cuisine that breaks free from the confines of tradition whilst remaining authentic in terms of techniques and flavours.  Whilst providing a Japanese haute cuisine style experience, ingredients, for example, will be sourced locally instead being imported from Japan and service will be less formal too.  The venue will also house a bar with a Japanese influenced cocktails list.

It’s not often that we are left utterly speechless, but the box of treats we received from Lallapolosa Baking Company did just that.  Salted Caramel Pecan Dreams Brownies could possibly be the most perfect food ever – nutty, salty, sweet, crunchy, moist, chewy and a host of other drool-worthy adjectives all in one small and perfectly formed cake.  Move onto the Florentines and you will quite possibly find yourself in a genuine indulgence induced coma.  Made with orange scented chewy candy peel, toasted almonds and dipped in couveture milk chocolate, these stunning discs of heavenly goodness were also recently awarded 3-Stars at the Great Taste Awards 2012. With a host of other goodies to choose from, the husband and wife team behind Lallapolosa may have just created the most important website on the internet!
