What do you get when you let a DJ open a restaurant? Massive slices of pizza apparently! Meter offers a slice of Italy in urban Shoreditch, where Italy’s finest export – pizza – is served by the meter alongside an exciting drinks list, all set to a discerning soundtrack thanks to owner, acclaimed DJ James Priestley.
Housed at The CAMP – one of London’s leading destinations celebrating the world of music and art – Meter provides suitably laid back but tasty sustenance for the DJs, artists and fashionistas that make up the regular crowd. Fortunately James is just as discerning with his taste in food as he is about his music, which means the undeniably stylish concept is backed up by some seriously good food.
James’ love of proper pizza is translated through chef Valentino Fontana. Having been brought-up in the home of pizza in Naples, Valentino has been given the freedom to use the freshest and finest ingredients for a range of simple yet truly delicious dough based creations. These include the Broccoli e Salsiccia, with wild broccoli, pork & fennel sausage, chillies, cream & mozzarella; the Salame Piccante, topped with spianata calabra, black olives, tomato, chillies & scamorza; and the Melanzane, with aubergines, parmesan, tomato, mozzarella, ricotta & basil. Those averse to carb heavy foods can still visit Meter, with other dishes to enjoy including homemade Scamorza croquettes and Veal & almond meatballs.
The drinks at Meter are also taken seriously, where a short but perfectly formed drinks list provides plenty of temptation to get a lively evening started. The likes of a Spritz sit happily alongside a Punt e Mes Cobbler, as well as providing a selection of Italian wine and locally brewed beers. The venue is also suitably rustic, with exposed terrazzo flooring and a great selection of mid-century seating and sofas to lounge back on and enjoy a slice and a cocktail.
