Those on a New Year’s health trip who simply can’t face giving up alcohol should pop into a Rocket restaurant this January, where they have thoughtfully created a series of extra-fruity, calorie counted cocktails.  The four cocktails include Raspberry & Beetroot Margarita, made with tequila, raspberries, organic beetroot juice, lime juice & blue agave extract (145 cals); and Orange & Carrot Martini, comprising of Stolichnaya Orange, carrot juice, orange peel, lemon juice & freshly squeezed orange juice (120 calories).

Calorie counted menus @ The Real Greek

The Real Greek, winner of the UK’s Healthy Eating Chain of the Year at the Restaurant Magazine R200 awards, has the perfect recipe for those planning on a ‘New Year, New You’.  The Greek chain is offering a seven course healthy menu which can total as little as 546 calories per person.  With dishes available including Taramasalata, Chicken Skewers, Halloumi and Lamb Kefte, it’s actually appetising regardless of its health aspirations.  Costing just £15 to serve two people, including drinks, it’s great for those who value their wallets as much as their waistline!

Free Steak Tasting Tuesdays @ JW Steakhouse

Every Tuesday until 29th March, between 6-7pm guests enjoying a drink in the Bourbon Bar at JW Steakhouse will have the opportunity to sample 2 types of mouth-watering USDA prime steak – the renowned Tomahawk and New York Strip – with a different side every week.  The food will be served by a chef from a food station in the bar and guests can also try a glass of Hands of Time, a new red wine for Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars stocked exclusively at JW Steakhouse.

However, Samarqand offers Marylebone locals the chance to experience the cuisines of Central Asian countries like Uzbekhistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.  With additional inspiration from neighbouring countries such as Russia, China and Mongolia, diners can expect dishes such as Asian Onion Pie, Tandoor baked pumpkin samosa and Steamed beef dumplings with tzaziki & chilli relish.  With renowned bar consultant Ben Narzi at the helm, guests can also expect some great cocktails in the cocktail lounge.

By day, London’s MUSHU offers modern canteen style dining with a design-led and bright interior, serving speedy lunches with each dish created and served in mere minutes.  In the evening the pace slows and MUSHU becomes a relaxed ‘izakaya’ style bar-restaurant serving a menu of great value Oriental tapas.  MUSHU’s house speciality is fresh handmade Beijing dumplings, with fillings including Beef & Kimchi and Pork & Cabbage, but diners can also take culinary trips to other parts of the orient with Sushi, Teriyaki and a host of other Asian dishes available.

1062 Newsletter January 12 2011Ideally tucked away to evade the chaos of Oxford Street, Bar 92 provides an ideal place to wind down after a spot of sales shopping. The imaginative drinks menu features twists on cocktail classics such as ‘Blueberry Margarita’ and ‘Maple Manhattan, and there is also an array of small bites to nibble on including a selection of meze, charcuterie and cheese boards. The stylish venue matches contemporary design with black and white photography of 50s and 60s style icons, as well as booth seating. Open from 5pm until midnight, Monday to Saturday, Bar 92 is table service only, so unlike the shops, there won’t be a queue in sight!

Searcys Champagne Bar @ Paddington Station, W2

The romance of travel is back with the opening of the latest Searcy Champagne Bar at Paddington Station. This glamorous bar will hold one of the largest selections of grand marquee houses around, with an extensive selection available by the glass.  British sparkling wine producers are also represented, with producers such as Balfour Brut Rosé adding to the list.  The food menu offers a tapas style approach specifically designed to match with Champagne, including cured meats, cheese and fresh seafood.
