Free Whisky every Wednesday from Penderyn Distillery, starting 17 November!

1017 Newsletter 17 November 2010Wales’ only whisky distillery, Penderyn Distillery, has teamed up with some of London’s top bars to give out free drams of smooth and warming ‘Welsh Gold’ to Londoners every Wednesday this winter.  The activity kicks off tonight at whisky emporium, Albannach ( and city style bar, Mint Leaf Lounge (, so head down between 5-7pm, say the magic words ‘Welsh Whisky Wednesday’ to the barman and claim your free dram.  The bars will change every Wednesday, so follow Penderyn’s Facebook page ( or on Twitter ( to find out the latest venues.

1018 Newsletter 17 November 2010‘A Fluid State’ is a unique drinks based event that will transform an 8,000sqft space in central London with 5 main experience areas featuring performances and installations from some of the UK’s most interesting artists and performers. Scorpion & Oven-Baked Tarantula Tea Punch @ The Langham, W1

The Artesian Bar at the Langham has taken experimental cocktails to a new level by offering this genuinely bizarre tarantula and scorpion-infused concoction.  Blending VSOP cognac with aforementioned creepies, it must taste pretty good though, as it recently won resident drinks gurus, Alex Kratena and Francesco Orefici, the title of Courvoisier Punch Masters 2010.  The punch is now on sale at the Artesian Bar, served in a china teacup and priced at £18.00.

The deVigne Bar at the Mandeville Hotel has seen an extensive redesign to ensure it continues to set the standard for stylish London bars.  Most importantly for drinks fans, the new bar now includes a ‘Cocktail Lab’, where resident mixologist Robert Gaggl will offer a regularly changing menu of unique cocktails based on the seasons, fresh ingredients, innovative spices and intriguing infusions.  For those who can’t deal with the choice, the bar also offers a five-cocktail tasting tray.

Chocolate Wonderland at Liberty is a nostalgic chocolate shop selling an exclusive range of sweets and chocolates created by boutique chocolatier Cocomaya.  The new outlet is the perfect place to come for a one of a kind sweet gift, be it a nostalgic sweetie filled Toby jug, party favours to dress your table with, gin and tonic flavoured petits fours or novelty stocking fillers.

Christmas is all about guilt-free enjoyment of puddings and alcohol and I can’t think of a better way of indulging in our favourite vices than these cakes from Sprinkalicious Bakery.  With their incredibly moist sponge and unashamedly rich flavour, these adult cakes had the grown men in our office ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ like a bunch of school girls at a JLS concert.  And who could blame them, with gorgeous flavours such as ‘Mojito’, which includes lime, fresh and a good glug of Bacardi, and ‘Choc Guiness’ which mixes hearty Guinness, vanilla and chocolate.  Around £25 for a large cake from
