Inspired by the sociable dining scene and coffee culture of the tapas bars of Barcelona, seasoned restaurant consultant Jason Fendick felt that The City was the ideal place for his new venture. Fast forward a couple of years and his venture has been so successful that Jason has managed to expand on the success of the first restaurant with the opening of another outpost in the West End. We visited the City branch of PINCHITOtapas.
The well worn couches, seemingly randomly placed pieces of bright artwork and exposed brickwork give PINCHITOtapas a look that is more akin to the funky drinking dens of nearby Shoreditch. However, judging by a fully booked restaurant area and a packed bar on a sunny Wednesday evening, it’s clearly something that the locals are endeared to. Cocktails at around £6 and some excellent Spanish wines for around £4 also no doubt prove appealing!
The menu provides a seasonal 40 strong menu of traditional Spanish tapas, with specials of Paella on Wednesdays and Roast suckling pig on Thursday. Simple things like Queso Manchego cheese and plates of Spanish meat are great to nibble on, but the more intricate plates are also very good. Our selection included Mixed meat croquettes, Cod Rioja style (in a rich red pepper & wine sauce), Chorizo with cider & apple sauce and a seafood Paella. All were dangerously delicious – the danger being that we just couldn’t stop ordering more! Fortunately the pricing is very reasonable, with good sized dishes costing around £5/plate, so you can really have some fun without worrying about choosing something you might not like.
