The Dorchester Spatisserie, W1

spatisserie The Dorchester Spatisserie, W1Following a major refurb, the Dorchester Spa has reopened as a haven of paradise for London’s elite ladies.  As always, they’ll have you looking good & feeling more relaxed than Snoop Dog on a trip to Jamaica.  Whatsmore, with their recently launched Spatisserie, they have also created the perfect place for wannabe Carries, Samanthas, Charlottes and Mirandas to wind down and enjoy a cup of tea or spot of lunch without any potential Mr Bigs or Richard Wrights getting in the way.  (Guys, if you’re reading this and feeling lost, they are all characters in Sex and The City).

The Spatisserie is an opulent and intimate tea salon with an incredibly relaxed feel about it.  Décor includes silvered mirrors, the liberal use of luxurious materials such as silk and mohair and a large centre table topped with a massive bouquet of flowers and tempting array of handmade cakes. Throw in some calming music and seating options which include big leather daybeds and you could almost be in one of their treatment rooms preparing for a massage.

The menu reflects the rest of the venue, with the emphasis on lighter meals and well-being, with a touch of decadence.  Miss Pancake and I went for their take on the traditional afternoon tea.  Carb heavy sandwiches and fat laden scones were nowhere to be seen as we were presented with a range of diminutive pastries and open sandwiches which were clearly aimed at dainty ladies with the tiniest of appetites.  Thankfully, you can order top-ups of the various items but you’re going to need a fair few repeats to make you feel as if you’ve eaten.

Most interesting amongst the various delights were a fun pastry which had the taste and zing of a sherbet dip; and their version of the classic scone which turned out to be a light biscuit like cake topped with a strawberry jelly.   As you’d expect, drinks include an extensive list of teas from around the world as well as various healthy sounding cocktails and mocktails.
