Vapiano, W1

In a city of 7 million-odd people, it’s no surprise that everyone is trying to stand out fromvapiano 150x147 Vapiano, W1 the crowd.  Whether it’s funky covers for our iPods, impossibly complicated coffees (tall, skinny mocha with half a shot of hazelnut for me!) or personal tailoring, our opportunities to break the mould are endless.  Visit Vapiano and you’ll have the opportunity ‘pimp’ your meal too!

Vapiano specialises in fresh Italian made-to-order food, in a quick and self-service format.  The open-kitchen area is split into various stations including pizza, pasta and salad; you simply visit the relevant station and order what you want from the extensive menu.  But here comes the fun bit.  The food is freshly made in front of you, so fusspots can customise everything from how much garlic they want in their pasta to extra toppings on their pizza.  Mr Hermanos and I tried a number of dishes, including a tasty bowl of Mushroom tagliatelle and a Diavalo pizza which was wonderfully fresh, but lacked any real punch from the chilli or the ‘spicy’ sausage.  It all came in whopping great portions and with pizzas and pasta starting at around £5.50, it also represented good value.

The restaurant itself is split over two floors and provides a pleasant and airy environment.  It’s ideal for those that want something substantial to eat or as an alternative to a coffee shop; they provide free Wi-Fi and you can easily find yourself a comfortable corner to get some work done whilst having a light bite without being disturbed by staff.  Definitely one to keep on the radar for a good quality, quick bite.
