With a packed lunchtime restaurant, Royal China’s Dim Sum menu is clearly something of an institution for locals and it’s not hard to see why. Served only at lunchtime, there are dozens of fresh and tasty dim sum to choose from and with many items costing under £3, you’ll be able to walk out with change from a tenner. Cheung Fun (steamed rice-pastry rolls filled with your choice of meat or seafood) were satisfyingly stodgy and full of deep, meaty flavour; dumplings were delicate and delicious; and for those after a simple one plate lunch, they do generous bowls of filling soups and rice with your choice of meats, fish & veg. As is tradition, accompany your lunch with a pot of their specialist tea and you can have yourself a lunch which is as healthy as it is tasty!
For those after a more substantial Chinese meal, the restaurant also offers a traditional Hong Kong style Chinese menu, full of all of classics such as Aromatic Crispy Duck with pancakes, Sweet & sour chicken etc. However, in my experience, these dishes aren’t a patch on the Dim Sum menu and are substantially pricier also.
In terms of ambience, the restaurant has a pleasantly relaxed and friendly feel, with plenty of tables arranged for larger groups, making it ideal for large families and groups of friends dining together. Their large open-plan dining room is also sufficiently dressed up with Chinese décor to provide plenty of Oriental character.
