The Pie Room, W1

When you want to meet your mates in town for a proper catch-up, there is no better place than a proper pub with proper home-cookedpieroom The Pie Room, W1 grub.  Whatsmore, nothing goes quite as well with pints aplenty than a good pie.

Let me tell you, the Pie Room does exactly what it says on the tin, and delivers in lovely pastry covered spades!  Situated on the top floor of The Newman Arms pub, there is barely space for 25 hungry diners so booking is essential, but once there, you’re presented with around 10 delicious freshly cooked pies to choose from.  So taken aback were we with the choice that Mr Pants came up with the novel idea of having a ‘Share Pie’ for the whole table to try.  For £9, you get a generous pie, veg and the most charming service.

The pies we tried were simply awesome and included Chicken, Gammon & Leek, Chicken & Broccoli and Lamb & Rosemary.  We obviously had to go for deserts and these were equally brilliant.  Not being able to decide between custard and ice cream for my Apple Flapjack Crumble, I was presented with both; all agreed it made a great combo.  Other English classics included Sticky Toffee pudding and I was too drunk to remember the rest – sign of a great night!
